Our Verdict

AFC Home Club does one thing better than anyone else in this industry: HVAC coverage.

No cap. Not "$5,000 per unit." Not "$3,000 combined." No cap.

If your heat pump fails and replacement runs $11,000, AFC pays for the covered components without a ceiling. That is genuinely, factually unusual in a market where coverage caps are the primary tool every other company uses to limit their payout on expensive claims.

That said, read the fine print. The "no cap" applies to HVAC specifically. Other items - appliances, plumbing components - have per-item caps in the $150-$3,000 range. The no-cap story is real but HVAC-specific.

Pros & Cons

+ What Works

  • + No HVAC coverage cap - confirmed, real, the company's core differentiator
  • + $50,000 annual aggregate limit - highest in the industry
  • + Choose-your-own-contractor feature - rare and genuinely valuable

  • + 4.0 Trustpilot - solid "Great" rating

What Doesn't

HVAC Cap Comparison

The single most important number in any home warranty. AFC is the outlier.

Company HVAC Cap
AFC Home Club No cap
Old Republic (Elite) $6,500/unit
American Home Shield (Platinum) $5,000/unit
Armadillo $3,000/unit
Liberty Home Guard $2,000/unit
Choice Home Warranty $3,000 combined
Cinch Home Services $1,500 combined

Choose-Your-Own-Contractor

Every other major home warranty company requires you to use a contractor from their network - whoever they dispatch. AFC lets you use your own licensed contractor. Call your regular HVAC tech, get the repair done, submit the invoice, and AFC pays.

This matters most in two situations: rural areas where home warranty contractor networks are thin and the dispatched tech may have limited experience, and homeowners who have established relationships with a specific contractor they trust.

Note: the choose-your-own-contractor process requires claim submission and approval, which takes longer than in-network dispatch.

Sample Coverage Scenario

Heat pump failure in January. Two-zone system. Full replacement required. Contractor quote: $14,800.

AFC Platinum (~$70/mo, $100 fee)
AFC pays
Full covered cost
Your cost
~$1,000
AHS Platinum ($5,000/unit cap)
AHS pays
$10,000 (2 units × $5K)
Your cost
~$5,920

AFC saves approximately $4,920 on this single claim. You could pay the difference in AFC vs. AHS monthly premiums for over 15 years before AHS pricing advantage caught up.

BBB & Legal Record

Who It's Best For

Good Match

  • Homeowner with aging HVAC in a demanding climate - Texas, Arizona, Georgia, Florida, Minnesota. One full HVAC replacement at $9,000 vs. a $2,000 cap saves you $7,000.
  • Rural homeowners with thin contractor networks who want to use their own trusted HVAC tech.
  • High-value homes with expensive HVAC systems where the $50K aggregate and no cap align with the risk profile.

May Not Be Ideal

  • Primarily appliance buyers - Liberty or Choice offer appliance coverage at lower monthly cost.
  • Budget-first buyers - AFC premiums are higher than Choice, Select, and some Liberty tiers.
  • Buyers who need the widest add-on catalog - Liberty has 40+ add-ons vs. AFC's smaller selection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does AFC really have no HVAC coverage cap?
Yes - confirmed. AFC does not have a per-claim dollar cap on HVAC coverage. The $50,000 annual aggregate is the only ceiling, and reaching it would require an extraordinary failure year.
What is AFC Home Club's annual aggregate limit?
$50,000 per year - the highest aggregate limit in the industry among major home warranty companies.
Can I use my own HVAC contractor with AFC?
Yes. AFC's choose-your-own-contractor feature lets you hire any licensed contractor, get the work done, and submit for reimbursement. The process takes longer than in-network dispatch.
Does the no-cap claim apply to appliances too?
No. The no-cap coverage is HVAC-specific. Non-HVAC appliances and systems have per-item caps ranging from $150 to $3,000. Get the Schedule of Benefits for your specific plan.
How many states is AFC available in?
Approximately 47 states. Verify availability in your specific state before purchasing.
Is AFC Home Club BBB accredited?
Yes, with a B rating. BBB accreditation means they meet the bureau's standards for transparency and complaint handling.
What is AFC's service fee?
$75, $100, or $125 per trade service call. You choose at enrollment - the $75 option is the lowest minimum service fee among major providers.
Is AFC Home Club worth the higher premium?
Depends entirely on your HVAC risk. If you have aging HVAC in a climate that demands year-round use, the no-cap coverage pays off dramatically on a single major claim. If your HVAC is new and the main risk is appliances, the premium may be higher than necessary.
